Test Development Engineer – Production Support
Location: Chippenham
Contract: Long-term, ongoing contract
Hours: Full-time, typically 07:30–15:30, Monday–Friday
Rate: £25.00–£30.00 per hour, depending on experience
Role Overview
BMR Solutions are currently recruiting for an experienced Test Development Engineer – Production Support to support electronic manufacturing and production test operations in Chippenham.
This is a long-term contract opportunity working within an established engineering environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining production test capability, investigating test failures, developing and improving test processes, and supporting continuous improvement activities.
The company is an internationally renowned transportation engineering organisation with a broad range of technical capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Test Engineer looking to join a collaborative team where technical expertise and effective performance are valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for electronic production testing.
- Develop test methods and procedures and train technicians in the use of test equipment.
- Liaise with internal departments, customers and external test facilities.
- Investigate and report on failed or fatigued components, including root cause analysis.
- Produce detailed test reports and present findings to project teams.
- Provide regular status updates to project teams and the Engineering Manager.
- Support troubleshooting, fault-finding and continuous improvement activities.
- Carry out additional duties as requested by the Engineering Manager.

The Person Required
- Degree-level qualification, or equivalent experience, in an engineering discipline.
- Minimum 3 years' testing/development experience, with 5+ years preferred.
- Strong ability to interpret test standards, customer requirements and internal specifications.
- Practical experience using a wide range of test, measurement and data acquisition equipment, including DMMs, oscilloscopes and NI analysers.
- Hands-on technical experience with electrical/electronic systems.
- Experience with component disassembly and soldering.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Essential Skills
- Electronics fault-finding and debugging.
- Ability to interpret electrical/electronic schematics and technical drawings.
- Test procedure development.
- Root cause analysis.
- Experience using oscilloscopes, DMMs and data acquisition equipment.
Desirable Skills
- LabVIEW or TestStand experience.
- C/C++ programming.
- ICT or Flying Probe programming/support.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards.
- Experience working within regulated industries.
