The Role
As a Test Engineer, you will be part of an Agile, multidisciplinary delivery team responsible for testing and supporting modern digital services built with cloud-native architectures, microservices and modern front-end frameworks. You will work across the full testing lifecycle including planning, automation, execution, defect management and continuous improvement ensuring high levels of quality, performance and security. The role requires strong hands-on automation experience across web UI and API testing, as well as exposure to non-functional testing such as accessibility, performance, and reliability. Working closely with developers, DevOps engineers and business analysts, you will embed quality from the start of the lifecycle and support frequent, dependable releases.

Key responsibilities:
- Plan, design and execute testing activities using a risk-based approach within Agile teams.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites for web, API, and integration testing (Selenium, Playwright or similar).
- Perform functional, integration and user acceptance testing across digital services.
- Build strong API automation scripts for REST/SOAP services.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedback.
- Raise, track and manage defects using tools such as JIRA.
- Collaborate closely with developers, DevOps engineers and business analysts to support iterative delivery.
- Contribute to test estimation, reporting and progress tracking.
- Ensure quality standards are met across releases, environments and deployment cycles.
- Promote best practices in test automation, accessibility and performance testing.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and support to other testers within the team.
Your Profile
- Strong hands-on experience in Web UI Automation using Selenium, Playwright or similar tools.
- Proficiency in Java and/or Python for writing automated test scripts.
- Hands-on experience in API automation (REST and SOAP).
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Exposure to Accessibility Testing (WCAG principles, tools).
- Exposure to Performance/Load Testing tools or methodologies.
- Strong defect management, documentation and reporting skills.
- Understanding of testing modern web applications and microservice architectures.
- Experience working in Agile delivery teams.

- Basic understanding of AI/ML-based testing approaches (e.g., intelligent test selection or data-driven testing).
- Experience testing cloud-hosted applications on AWS and/or Azure.
- Experience working on large-scale enterprise or public-sector digital programmes.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a hybrid working environment.
