The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Test Engineer – Electric Powertrain to support the development and validation of advanced electric propulsion and high-power electrification systems. This is a hands-on, fully site-based position requiring strong practical experience with electric motors, motor test cells, and electric powertrain testing.
The successful engineer will be responsible for planning, setting up, and executing test programmes, analysing results, and working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to identify issues and improve system performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute electric motor and powertrain test programmes using dedicated motor test cells and dynamometer facilities.
- Set up, configure, and operate motor test cells, instrumentation, data acquisition, and associated test equipment.
- Conduct performance, efficiency, thermal, durability, and functional testing of electric motors and powertrain systems.
- Support testing of motors, inverters, power electronics, and associated high-voltage systems.
- Develop test procedures, specifications, and test plans based on engineering and system requirements.
- Configure instrumentation, sensors, measurement equipment, and data acquisition systems.
- Analyse test data and clearly communicate results to engineering teams.
- Diagnose test failures, unexpected system behaviour, and hardware/software integration issues.
- Work closely with electrical, controls, mechanical, and systems engineers to resolve technical problems.
- Support test-cell commissioning, maintenance, and continuous improvement activities.
- Produce clear test reports and maintain appropriate engineering documentation.
- Ensure testing is undertaken safely, particularly when working with high-voltage and high-power equipment.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
