Automation Test Engineer | £60,000 - £85,000 | Fully Remote
Overview:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within a highly reputable life sciences organisation, supporting the continued digital transformation of a large-scale SaaS product. We are looking for an experienced Automation Test Engineer to play a key role in developing and enhancing automated testing capabilities across a modern technology environment.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about automation, quality engineering and emerging technologies, with hands-on experience using modern automation frameworks such as Playwright and AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or GitHub Copilot.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain robust automated test frameworks and test suites across web and cloud-based applications.
- Develop automated UI and API tests using modern frameworks such as Playwright.
- Work closely with developers, Product Owners and technology teams to understand requirements and define appropriate testing strategies.
- Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and support continuous testing practices.
- Identify opportunities to increase automation coverage, improve efficiency and reduce reliance on manual testing.
- Use AI-assisted tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot or similar technologies to support test development, scripting and automation.
- Analyse test results, investigate defects and work collaboratively with development teams to resolve issues.
- Contribute to automation standards, frameworks and best practices across the technology function.
- Support testing across cloud-based and SaaS applications, ensuring solutions meet functional and quality requirements.

Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven commercial experience working as an Automation Test Engineer, QA Automation Engineer, SDET or similar.
- Strong hands-on experience with Playwright or a similar modern automation framework.
- Strong programming/scripting experience, ideally with JavaScript or TypeScript.
- Experience developing and maintaining automated test frameworks.
- Experience with API testing and automated testing within CI/CD environments.
- Experience testing modern cloud-based or SaaS applications.
- Experience using AI-assisted development or testing tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot or similar.
- Strong understanding of software testing principles, automation strategy and the full software development lifecycle.

Desirable:
- Experience working with Salesforce / Salesforce Cloud or similar enterprise SaaS platforms.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Knowledge of performance, integration or end-to-end testing.
- Relevant testing qualification such as ISTQB or equivalent.
