Do you want to develop cutting-edge electric drive technology that is helping shape the future of sustainable transport?
At Advanced Electric Machines (AEM), we're looking for an enthusiastic and talented engineer to join our growing team and play a key role in the development, testing and integration of our world-leading rare earth-free electric motors.
This is a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology within a collaborative and innovative environment where your ideas, expertise and contributions will directly influence the future of electric mobility.
Why Join AEM?
At AEM, you'll be joining a business that's challenging conventional electric motor design and helping manufacturers transition towards more sustainable technologies.
But what really makes this role exciting is the variety.
Unlike larger organisations where engineering roles are often highly specialised, this position offers the opportunity to work across multiple disciplines including:
- Applications Engineering
- Electric Drive System Development
- System Integration
- Test & Validation
- Inverter Calibration & Configuration
- Customer Projects
- Prototype Development
- Product Improvement Activities
You'll work closely with engineers, suppliers and customers, gaining exposure to the full engineering lifecycle whilst making a genuine impact on the success of our technology.
Whether you're developing a new test rig, optimising motor performance, troubleshooting technical issues or supporting customer programmes, you'll be at the heart of innovation.
About the Role
Reporting to the Process Engineering Manager, you'll support the development, integration and validation of AEM's electric drive solutions.
This is a hands-on role that combines practical engineering, data analysis and problem solving. You'll be involved in everything from designing and commissioning test facilities through to developing motor and inverter calibrations, supporting customer applications and validating product performance.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
