Test Technician – Technical Products (Christchurch, UK)
We are seeking a skilled Test Technician to join our Christchurch-based team. You will oversee the creation of test programs for new and existing products, utilising internal and external test facilities to ensure technical requirements are met while adhering to strict test schedules and procedures.
About the Role
In this critical role, you will:
- Investigate, repair, and test products – Tackle customer field returns and end-of-line production failures, diagnosing faults down to component level.
- Document investigations – Record root cause analysis and corrective actions in our ERP system with accuracy.
- Plan stock and resources – Coordinate material requirements against current jobs, forecasting potential shortages based on lead times.
- Resolve customer enquiries – Act as a point of contact via email, phone, or Microsoft Teams, providing clear and concise information.
- Develop operating procedures – Create precise guidance for testing and rework rework to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Ensure compliance – Strictly follow test specifications, operating procedures, and adhere to 6S housekeeping and health and safety protocols.
- Support cross-departmental collaboration – Engage with internal teams as needed to maintain operational excellence.
- Proactively own testing outputs – Take ownership of testing tasks, driving resolution of issues and alignment with job schedules.
Location & Company Context
Location: Christchurch, UK
Part of the Curtiss-Wright Industrial Division, we supply components and subsystems for:
- Medical mobility solutions (scooters, wheelchairs)
- Controls for on- and off-highway vehicles (bus operator controls, motor controllers for forklifts, rehabilitation chairs)
- Innovative control systems for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute rigorous test, fault-finding, and repair procedures to ensure product compliance and reliability.
- Maintain detailed, accurate records in ERP systems for root cause analysis and quality tracking.
- Lead improvement initiatives to resolve defects, waste, or inefficiencies, supporting the TAS Manager in meeting timelines.
- Foster health and safety awareness, participating in housekeeping monitors to maintain 6S standards.
- Work collaboratively across functions to harmonise processes and boost operational efficiency.

Key Requirements

Qualification or experience:
- Time served/qualified in a mechanical apprenticeship (City & Guilds Part 3 or BTech Level 3 Mechanical-equivalent).
- or comparable mechanical or testing expertise in industry-related sectors.

Technical competencies:
- High proficiency in strictly adhering to procedures and accurately recording test results.
- Fault diagnosis skills—rapid identification of issues to component level for repair or adjustment.
- Problem-solving mindset: Investigate root causes, propose solutions, and implement improvements.
- IT-supported workflow: Experience with internal systems, troubleshooting tools, and report documentation.
