ROLE TITLE: Tester

LOCATION: Manchester or London (3 days per week on site with some weeks 5 days)
LENGTH: 12 months
SALARY: £41,000 to £45,000 per annum

Role Overview

We are actively looking to secure a Tester to join Experis.

Experis Consultancy is a Global entity with a well-established team with over 1000 consultants on assignment across 20 clients globally. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain performance test plans and test scenarios.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and client teams to understand functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Analyse application performance and identify bottlenecks, capacity issues, and areas for optimisation.
  • Develop automated performance test scripts and frameworks.
  • Execute load, stress, endurance, and scalability testing activities.
  • Produce detailed performance test reports and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Support defect investigation and resolution activities alongside development teams.
  • Contribute to test planning, estimation, and assurance activities throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams, participating in ceremonies and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure testing activities align with HMRC quality standards, security requirements, and programme objectives.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

Performance Testing

  • Strong experience in Performance Testing within enterprise-scale applications.
  • Proven experience designing and executing:
    • Load Testing
    • Stress Testing
    • Volume Testing
    • Endurance Testing
    • Scalability Testing
  • Experience analysing performance metrics and tuning recommendations.

Testing Tools

  • Strong hands-on experience with JMeter for performance and load testing.
  • Experience using Cucumber for Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) and automated testing.
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence for test management, defect tracking, and documentation.

Technical Skills

  • Good development and scripting experience in Java.
  • Experience working with REST APIs and service-based architectures.
  • Understanding of test automation principles and frameworks.
  • Experience investigating application logs and performance monitoring data.

Cloud Technologies

  • Experience working within AWS environments.
  • Familiarity with AWS tooling and cloud-based application architectures.
  • Understanding of performance considerations within cloud-hosted systems.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience within HMRC, Government, or wider Public Sector programmes.
  • Knowledge of customs, border, taxation, or regulatory systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools.
  • ISTQB Certification or equivalent testing qualification.
