I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Tate already has an extensive network of contacts internationally (including artists, collectors and arts professionals) however the role requires the further development of this network and dissemination of information and knowledge throughout Tate to further develop the internal knowledge base in Indigenous art.
Owing to Tate’s status as a National Collection and to avoid any conflict of interest, we regret that applications from those working for other collecting institutions and/ or individuals and those working in the commercial sector (e.g. commercial galleries and auction houses) cannot be considered.
This contract is offered on a 2.5 year fixed term freelance contract. The time spent on the work is flexible and discretionary, however the institution expects the Adjunct Curator to devote the equivalent to 21.6 hours per week to fulfil their obligations under the contract. Eligibility to work in the UK is essential.
