Job Description
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Avon and Somerset is recruiting a Contact and Scrutiny Officer to join its Scrutiny and Assurance Team. Based in Portishead with hybrid working, you will manage PCC enquiries and correspondence, provide excellent customer service to members of the public, and support the administration and coordination of the OPCC Volunteer Programme. This is a varied role requiring excellent communication, organisational skills, and attention to detail.
Core Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage communications received through the PCC contact channels, including the PCC mailbox, telephone enquiries, and correspondence from members of the public and stakeholders.
- Research and prepare high-quality, customer-focused responses to public enquiries, working with colleagues across the OPCC and wider policing and partnership organisations.
- Monitor and manage the OPCC Volunteer mailbox, responding to enquiries and ensuring volunteer requests and actions are progressed efficiently and effectively.
- Support the coordination and administration of OPCC Volunteer programmes, including volunteer communications, vetting and vetting renewals, record management, volunteer passes, meetings, and events.
- Support the PCC in carrying out statutory responsibilities relating to volunteer programmes and oversight of the police complaints regime.
- Maintain accurate records and information management systems, ensuring compliance with information governance requirements and supporting the continuous improvement of contact management processes.

- Experience of working in a customer-focused environment.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
- Confidence in dealing with members of the public, volunteers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately and make sound, risk-based judgments.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a varied workload.
- Comfortable working independently while building positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers, and partner organisations.
- Experience within local government, policing, the public sector, or the voluntary sector would be advantageous.

The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) is to be the voice of local people in policing and to hold the Chief Constable to account. The aim of all PCCs is to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient police service within their force area.

Job Details

- Salary: £30,333.00- £37,020.00 per year

Please note that government plans are underway to transfer functions under the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) model to a Police and Crime Board in May 2028 as part of reforms introduced by the Police Reform Bill. Functions delivered by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) will still be required under the new model; however, the specific arrangements of this transfer are in their infancy and yet to be defined. These changes are intended to enable better join-up with local services across Avon and Somerset.
