Theatre Practitioner - Specialist Orthopaedic Hospital
Crowborough, East Sussex
Circa £42,000 (Flexible depending on Experience) + Benefits
Full-Time | 4-Day Working Week | 8am–6pm

We are working exclusively with an independent healthcare provider in Crowborough to recruit Senior Theatre Practitioners across both Scrub and Recovery.
Whether your background is predominantly Scrub or Recovery/PACU, this is an opportunity to join a busy, supportive theatre department with a strong elective surgical caseload and excellent opportunities for further clinical development.
The Role
Working as part of an experienced multidisciplinary theatre team, you will provide safe, high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative pathway.
Depending on your specialism, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering high-quality Scrub or Recovery care within a busy elective theatre environment
- Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individual patient care
- Working closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, theatre practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Supporting the safe and efficient running of operating lists
- Maintaining high standards of clinical governance, infection prevention and patient safety
- Supporting junior colleagues and contributing to a positive team culture
- Participating in clinical audits, service improvement and ongoing professional development
Scrub Practitioners
The hospital performs a significant volume of elective orthopaedic surgery, including major joint procedures.

Previous orthopaedic experience would therefore be advantageous; however, it is not essential.
Experienced Scrub Nurses or ODPs from other surgical specialties will be considered, with training available to develop your orthopaedic skills. The client specifically confirmed that solid scrub experience is more important than already being an orthopaedic specialist.
Recovery Practitioners
You will provide specialist post-anaesthetic care to patients following a varied elective surgical caseload.
Applicants should have previous Recovery/PACU experience and be confident caring for patients immediately following anaesthesia and surgery.
Orthopaedic experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
What We're Looking For
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or HCPC registered Operating Department Practitioner
- Previous theatre experience
- Proven experience within either Scrub or Recovery
- Strong communication and multidisciplinary working skills
- Commitment to safe, evidence-based patient care
- Ability to work effectively within a busy elective theatre environment
Previous orthopaedic experience, mentorship experience or additional theatre qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
One of the biggest attractions is the working pattern. Theatre practitioners work four days per week, 8am–6pm, offering a considerably different lifestyle to a traditional five-day working week.
The hospital operates predominantly planned elective surgery and has relatively few theatre overruns. During our briefing, the client advised that overruns occur only around three times per month and are typically limited to approximately 10–20 minutes.

Practitioners are encouraged to broaden their theatre skills, including opportunities to cross-train between Scrub, Recovery and Anaesthetics. The hospital has also supported staff through advanced surgical training and operates its own accredited training centre onsite.

Due to its location and limited public transport links, this opportunity will particularly suit candidates who drive and are comfortable commuting to Crowborough.
