Theatre Team Lead | Theatres | Southend | Full-Time (37.5 hrs)

£50,000 + £5,000 Joining Bonus | No Nights


About the Role

Spire Wellesley seeks an accomplished Lead Scrub Practitioner to join our dynamic Theatre Team Lead position. This full-time role requires clinical leadership, team management, and exemplary patient care across a 3-theatre, endoscopy, and 33-bed surgical facility spanning specialties such as Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, General Surgery, Vascular, Plastics, Gynaecology, Ophthalmology, Spinal Surgery, Urology, and ENT.

Responsibilities

As this role involves leadership, patient safety, and operational efficiency, you’ll handle:

  • Team Leadership & Mentorship

    • Collaborate with the Theatre Manager to lead, counsel, and appraise staff, implementing personal development plans
    • Provide clinical supervision to junior staff, including RGNs and ODPs
    • Mentor staff (preferably with a mentorship qualification)
    • Ensure excellence in perioperative care through continuous improvement
  • Patient Care & Clinical Excellence

    • Assess health, wellbeing, and perioperative risks across complex caseloads
    • Develop individualised care plans, aligning with the care pathway
    • Act as a role model by delivering high-standard clinical leadership
  • Operational & Liaison Support

    • Ensure timely booking of equipment and implants in conjunction with the Theatre Administrator
    • Liaise with Company Representatives to support surgeons and surgical staff
    • Contribute to theatre efficiency improvements while maintaining patient safety

  • Organisation & Collaboration
    • Support a small, multi-disciplinary team, averaging 37.5 hours/week, including weekend on-call duties

Requirements

To thrive in this role, you must:

  • Be a fully registered Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC)
    • No restrictions or conditions to scope of practice
  • Demonstrate 3+ years of scrub nursing experience in multiple surgical specialties
  • Hold a mentorship qualification (preferred)
  • Excellent teamwork skills with minimal supervision
  • Previous leadership experience is advantageous but not mandatory (Spire Healthcare offers award-winning training!)
  • Strong ability to manage complex cases and understand financial budgets (desirable)
