Therapeutic Childcare Practitioner

Central Scotland and travel required to company sites.

Permanent Full Time

From £48,788 to £52,861 plus car allowance

We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate people to join our team. We believe in providing a holistic approach to care through therapeutic parenting. We specialise in solo placements for young people residing in care up to the age of 21 and implement the trauma-informed framework to professional care.

Role Overview

The purpose of this role is to contribute towards the ongoing development of the wellbeing department at Greenleaf House. To provide psychological assessments that inform care planning and risk management. To train residential care staff in therapeutic parenting approaches. To offer support to residential staff through consultation. To work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team to provide the highest standard of care for our young people. To deliver evidence-based psychological treatment to young people who have experienced a wide range of adversities including abuse, neglect and trauma. This will include individual work and support for the young person’s wider team.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct (with the child) and indirect (with the team) psychological services across children’s homes informing care planning and risk management.
  • Complete psychological assessments and formulations with children and young people who have complex trauma histories.
  • Provide consultation and training to residential care staff and other professionals.
  • Participate in service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to audit and reporting processes.

Teaching, Training & Development:

  • Deliver training to residential care staff on the trauma-informed psychological approach of therapeutic parenting.
  • Support reflective practice for residential care staff in supporting young people.

Systems & Equipment:

  • Use electronic record systems for psychological assessment reports and intervention planning and outcomes.
  • Maintain proficiency in IT systems for communication, reporting, and data management.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to emotionally distressing history and behaviours that challenge.
  • Travel between homes required.
  • High levels of concentration and emotional resilience needed.
  • Demonstrate efficiency in managing your own caseload.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Therapist at Diploma Level.
  • Registered with BACP/BABCP/HCPC or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Work with children & young people who have experienced trauma.
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Understand developmental trauma.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Manage and prioritise caseload.
  • Report writing and presentation.
  • Critical research skills.
  • Work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and risk.
  • Knowledge of Scottish Policy (The Promise; GIRFEC; UNCRC).
  • Emotional resilience and an awareness of self-care.

Desirable

Qualifications:

  • Additional training in therapeutic approaches and evidence-based trauma informed interventions.
  • Additional training in delivering training and groupwork.

Experience:

  • Work with young people in residential care settings.
  • Experience of delivering groupwork interventions.
  • Experience of delivering training.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience managing complex professional communications.
  • Experience in service evaluation, audit and development.
  • Experience of using outcome measures.

Other Requirements:

  • Access to a car to travel across sites.
  • Commitment to continual professional development.
  • Reflective practitioner.
  • Commitment to clinical governance, ethical practice and supervision.
  • Work within your level of competency.
