Winchelsea School is a community special school committed to meeting the needs of pupils, aged 4 to 19, with a wide range of learning difficulties. We collaborate closely with local schools, who host our satellite classrooms at Kinson Academy, Old Town Infant School, Stanley Green Infant Academy, Canford Heath Junior School, Broadstone Middle School and Magna Academy.
Therapy Assistants have a wide-ranging role supporting the school Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists to support and develop pupil’s communication, motor and sensory needs.
The post holder will work under the guidance of an allocated member of the Senior Leadership Team and will be supported and supervised by the relevant therapists responsible for delegating work to them.

- supporting speech, language, communication and feeding needs for pupils on the Speech and Language Therapy caseload;
- supporting sensory, visual processing and fine and gross motor needs for pupils on the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy caseload;
- managing pupil behaviour through improving communicative, sensory and physical skills;
- have a specific caseload of pupils involving delivering one-to-one, small group and/or whole class therapy interventions for Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and this may include off-site Horse Riding Therapy.
- establishing and maintaining relationships with individual pupils and groups;
- supporting class teams to implement therapy recommendations;
- contributing to the provision of a high-quality therapy support service for pupils, teachers, the curriculum and the school;
- keeping records of therapy sessions and interventions delivered;
- contributing to the preparation, organisation and maintenance of therapy resources and equipment. This includes assistance with creating more complex visuals, communication aids and therapy-specific resources.
