About Us

Thermal Insulation Contractors Association (TICA) is the Trade Association representing the Thermal Insulation Industry as well as being the sole UK Training Provider for Thermal Insulation Apprenticeships. TICA's National Training Centre is based in Darlington and includes a large state-of-the-art 2-story workshop and facilities that welcome hundreds of Apprentices each year to complete block release training for their Apprenticeship.

Position Overview

The Thermal Insulation Trainer Assessor will be responsible for delivering high-quality training and assessment in thermal insulation, ensuring learners develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully complete their apprenticeship and work competently within the commercial and industrial insulation sector. Working as part of a diverse team of industry and education professionals, you will deliver both practical and theory-based sessions, guide and support learners individually and in groups, and assess performance in line with established and regulated standards. You will model industry best practice, uphold safety and compliance expectations, and contribute to the development of a skilled and confident future workforce.

Person Specification

  • Minimum 4 years of industry experience in thermal insulation.
  • Experience in metal fabrication of pipework and ductwork is desirable but not essential.
  • Able to take instructions and open to learning new skills, knowledge and behaviour.
  • Works well as part of a team and independently.
  • Organised, flexible, and the ability to prioritise tasks and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Passion for training, skills and a role model for the next generation of insulators.
  • Good time management.
  • Holds Health & Safety paramount.

Duties Include

  • Deliver high-quality practical and theory sessions in Thermal Insulation.
  • Conduct assessments, skills tests and provide clear, constructive feedback aligned with regulated standards.
  • Maintain a safe, organised and industry-standard workshop environment, including equipment setup and housekeeping.
  • Record and track learner progress, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all documentation.
  • Support positive behaviour management, promoting professionalism, safety, and industry expectations.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and refine curriculum content, teaching materials and assessment resources.
  • Liaise with employers and apprentices between block-release visits to monitor progress, address concerns, and reinforce workplace learning.
  • Contribute to team and staff meetings, offering insights into learner progress, curriculum development and operational improvements.
  • Attend learner visits, trips, careers events and industry engagement activities where required.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, including industry-specific upskilling and educational CPD.
  • Engage fully with quality improvement processes, including those linked to the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework, internal audits, lesson observations and the TICA quality cycle.

Experience and Qualifications

The only mandatory requirement for this role is that candidates hold a relevant Thermal Insulation qualification and/or a valid TICA Skill Card, along with a minimum of four years’ industry experience; teaching and assessing qualifications are desirable, but TICA supports individuals to gain these on the job and will fund the necessary training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Applicants will be required to sit a Level 2 Insulation Skills test as part of the interview process.
  • Successful applicants will undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
