Learn How We’re Busting Myths About Social Work.
Social workers change lives
Social workers make a real, positive difference for children. They help children stay safe, supported, and able to thrive, often at the moments they need it most.
Too often, the stories of the difference social workers make are untold. In their place are myths and misconceptions that can discourage people from considering social work as a career.
Setting the record straight
These myths damage morale and prevent talented people from joining the profession. We want to show the true impact of social work — the lives it changes and the lasting difference it makes.
There are lots of myths about social work. Here’s what social workers think of them.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

It’s time to reconsider social work
We know the persistent myths around social work can prevent people from considering social work as a career. That’s a problem, because social work is work that makes such a huge difference. We need to bring more people into the profession. People who represent the diverse families that social workers work with. People like you.
You might not think social work is for you, but we want to challenge you to reconsider. It’s one of the most impactful and rewarding careers you can have.
This is work that makes a difference.
