Job Description

Location: Port Office, Stannergate Road

Job Title: Timber Terminal Operative

Location: Port of Dundee

Hours: 0800-1700 Monday - Friday + overtime available over evenings & weekends, occasional night shifts

Compensation: £28,876 + shift allowance + OTE

At Forth Ports, we keep trade, logistics, and infrastructure moving. Every day, our teams support the flow of goods, materials, and services that businesses and communities rely on, helping to power economic growth across the UK and beyond. Our people are at the core of everything we do, and their expertise, commitment, and innovation drive our success.

With our commitment to reach carbon neutrality by 2032 and Net Zero by 2042, we're investing heavily in sustainable and digital technologies, including major growth in offshore wind and greener port operations. For you, this means joining a business that's evolving, ambitious, and making a real difference.

About The Role

As a Timber Terminal Operative, you will be based within the Timber Terminal Operation and be responsible for the safe and efficient loading of timber onto vehicles, the treatment and handling of timber packs, and the effective control of stock. You will also maintain high standards of housekeeping to ensure a safe, organised, and efficient working environment, supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the terminal.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Include

  • Ensure that all jobs are carried out safely with regard to risk assessments, Company procedures and relevant COSHH legislation.
  • Ensure the proper protective clothing and equipment is always worn in line with instruction.
  • Assist with the discharge and storage of timber (both treated and untreated). This will involve the use of forklift trucks.
  • Ensure that the timber is stored properly in line with picking lists and IPOS.
  • Work closely with colleagues and management to ensure effective communication across the Timber Terminal Operation.
  • Ensure that housekeeping in the Timber Terminal is maintained to a high standard.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge with the Timber Terminal processes so that any potential issues are avoided.

What are we looking for?

It is important to us that you are a good team member, who is also able to work independently. You will need to think critically, analyse situations, and develop practical solutions to overcome obstacles, minimise delays, and maintain operational efficiency. The Port environment is fast paced and busy so you must be able to demonstrate a really good understanding of the importance of Health and Safety in a heavily industrialised environment. As these roles may involve some nightshift working, we are looking for a degree of flexibility but an additional nightshift payment will apply for any nightshifts worked

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
