Tool Hire Manager - Barnsley

We are recruiting for a Tool Hire Manager to join our thriving Jewson branch in Barnsley, S70 3NS.
This is a full-time role working Monday-Friday 7:30 – 17:00, and every other Saturday from 08:00-12:00. As Tool Hire Manager, you will lead the Tool Hire function at our Barnsley branch, delivering excellent customer service, safe and efficient operations, and profitable sales growth. You will build strong customer relationships, drive cross-selling and upselling opportunities, maintain high standards across stock and equipment, and work closely with the Branch Manager to achieve branch targets.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead and manage the Tool Hire team, ensuring an efficient, safe and high-quality service.
- Deliver tool hire targets, with a strong focus on cross-selling and upselling.
- Build strong customer relationships and identify opportunities to grow tool hire sales.
- Coach, support and develop colleagues, providing regular feedback and helping the team reach its potential.
- Manage tool hire stock, inventory and availability to meet customer demand.
- Ensure all tool hire standards, processes and Health & Safety requirements are consistently maintained.
- Support with customer deliveries and collections when required, ensuring equipment is handled and secured safely.
- Resolve customer queries and complaints, taking ownership to deliver positive outcomes.
- Work closely with the Branch Manager and wider branch team to deliver an excellent customer experience.
- Lead regular team communications, promoting a positive, collaborative and customer-focused culture.

What We’re Looking For
- Experience of leading or managing a team, ideally within tool hire, equipment hire, builders’ merchants or a similar environment.
- A strong customer focus with the ability to build relationships and identify sales opportunities.
- Commercial awareness and a proven ability to deliver sales growth through cross-selling and upselling.
- Good knowledge of tool hire products, equipment and associated processes, or the ability to develop this knowledge quickly.
- A confident and supportive leadership style, with the ability to coach, motivate and hold colleagues accountable.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy branch environment.
- A commitment to high standards of Health & Safety and operational compliance.
- A collaborative approach, with the ability to work effectively across the wider branch team.
- A proactive attitude, with the confidence to take ownership, solve problems and deliver great customer service.
