Tool Maker/ Machinist
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Tool Maker/ Machinist to join an established engineering workshop supporting the repair, overhaul and remanufacture of mechanical equipment.
This is a varied role working on a wide range of components, with no repetitive production runs. You will be responsible for machining, repairing and modifying components to precise tolerances, often working from engineering drawings.
The Role
You will be working with a variety of manual machining equipment, including:
- Manual lathes
- Manual milling machines
- Drilling machines
- Boring machines
- Grinding machines

- Interpreting engineering drawings and determining the appropriate machining process
- Setting up and operating manual machinery
- Machining components to precise specifications and tolerances
- Measuring work using calipers, micrometers and other precision measuring equipment
- Repairing, modifying and reworking components
- Developing practical solutions where components need to be brought back within tolerance
- Designing and producing basic tooling and tooling modifications
- Supporting overhaul and refurbishment teams with machining requirements
- Carrying out basic maintenance and daily checks on workshop machinery
- Working closely with Production, Engineering and Workshop teams

About You
We are looking for a skilled Tool Maker/ Machinist with:
- Previous experience setting up and operating manual lathes, milling, drilling, boring and/or grinding machinery
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience working to tight tolerances
- Good knowledge of metric and imperial measurements
- Ability to select appropriate tooling and machining methods
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of jobs
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality
