This is an exciting opportunity to join Babcock Mission Critical Services Onshore (BMCSO), a leading provider of mission-critical helicopter services for the Air Ambulance, Police, and Offshore sectors. The role

As a Pilot at Gloucestershire Airport, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This position offers a unique opportunity for an individual with excellent situational awareness and strong decision-making abilities under pressure to make a significant impact. You’ll be flying a state-of-the-art EC135 and EC145 on both day and night Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) missions, providing urgent medical care and transporting patients in emergency situations. You’ll be part of a highly skilled team where your expertise and quick decision-making will be crucial to our operations.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Ensuring the safety of aircraft, crew and passengers during all operations.
  • Responding effectively to emergency and mission-critical situations.
  • Conducting HEMS, Police and NVIS flying operations in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Managing operational records, flight documentation and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Maintaining exceptional professional and safety standards across all flying activities.

This role is full time and based on site at Gloucestershire Airport, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The successful candidate will be required to reside within 25 nautical miles or 45 minutes of Gloucestershire Airport.

Essential experience of the Pilot

  • Either 1,000 hours Pilot in Command, including 500 hours Pilot in Command on twin turbine helicopters, or 1,000 hours as Co-Pilot in HEMS/Police operations, including 500 hours Pilot in Command Under Supervision and 100 hours Pilot in Command on twin turbine helicopters.
  • Minimum 2,000 hours total helicopter flying experience.
  • Minimum 500 hours operating experience on twin turbine helicopters in a comparable operational environment.
  • Current or recent HEMS experience and experience of NVIS operations.
  • Recent multi-engine helicopter experience and a minimum of 20 hours VFR night flying as Pilot in Command.

Qualifications for the Pilot

  • UK ATPL(H) or CPL(H) with Instrument Rating (IR).
  • Qualified and instrument rated on the EC135 and EC145 helicopter types.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must have the ability to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK
