Town Planner – Renewable Energy & TCPA Projects
Location: London
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Type: Full-time, permanent
The Opportunity
We are working with an established and growing planning consultancy in London, specialising in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. We are looking for an ambitious Town Planner to join the team and play a key role in delivering planning advice and consents for a range of exciting renewable energy and Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planner looking to build their career in a specialist consultancy with exposure to high-profile projects and the opportunity to work closely with developers, landowners, local authorities and other professional advisers.
The Role
You will support and lead planning work across a diverse portfolio of renewable energy and infrastructure projects, including:
- Preparing and submitting planning applications under the TCPA
- Providing strategic planning advice to clients and project teams
- Undertaking planning policy research and site appraisals
- Preparing planning statements and other supporting documentation
- Managing planning applications through the determination process
- Liaising with local planning authorities, statutory consultees and other stakeholders
- Supporting public consultation and stakeholder engagement
- Coordinating multidisciplinary project teams and external consultants
- Monitoring planning policy and emerging legislation relevant to renewable energy
- Supporting clients through appeals, negotiations and other planning processes where required

About You
We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in planning and the transition to a low-carbon energy system. You may be an Assistant Town Planner looking to step up, or a Town Planner with consultancy experience looking for a new challenge.
Ideally, you will have:
- A relevant degree and/or RTPI-accredited planning qualification
- Experience within a planning consultancy, local authority or related environment
- Understanding of the UK planning system and TCPA development management
- An interest in renewable energy and infrastructure projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational and project management abilities
- The confidence to engage with clients and professional stakeholders
- A proactive, commercially aware and solutions-focused approach

Experience with renewable energy projects such as solar, battery energy storage, onshore wind or associated infrastructure would be advantageous, but is not essential.
