The Opportunity

We are working with an established planning consultancy in York who are looking to appoint a Town Planner to join their growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a planner looking to develop their career within a supportive consultancy environment, working across a varied portfolio of projects throughout Yorkshire and beyond.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of planning matters, gaining exposure to both strategic and development management work while continuing to build their technical and professional experience.

The Role

As a Town Planner, you will be involved in a range of planning projects, including:

  • Preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals.
  • Undertaking planning appraisals and providing planning advice to clients.
  • Preparing Planning Statements and supporting planning documentation.
  • Conducting research into planning policy and legislation.
  • Liaising with local planning authorities, consultees and other stakeholders.
  • Supporting senior colleagues with larger and more complex development projects.
  • Monitoring planning applications and managing projects through the planning process.
  • Attending client and project meetings where required.
  • Contributing to the wider growth and development of the planning team.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Town Planning, Planning & Development, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience within a planning consultancy, local authority, or related planning environment.
  • A good understanding of the UK planning system and relevant planning policy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines.
  • Good commercial awareness and a client-focused approach.
  • Strong research, analytical and report-writing skills.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to continue developing professionally.
  • Candidates currently working towards RTPI membership or with an interest in progressing towards
