Senior Town Planner
Location: Horley, Surrey
Salary: Circa £40,000 DOE
Hours: Full time, permanent
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Town Planner to join the growing planning team of an established, multi-disciplinary property business based in Horley.
This is a varied position offering the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of planning projects, ranging from smaller developments through to strategic-sized schemes.
You'll work closely with experienced planning professionals as well as colleagues across commercial property, rural, land, new homes and residential agency, giving you exposure to a particularly broad range of projects and clients.
There is also a genuine business development element to the position, making this particularly suitable for a Planner who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and enjoys building relationships.
The Role
As Senior Town Planner, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing pre-applications, planning applications and appeals across multiple projects
- Managing external planning consultants and specialist advisers where required
- Advising clients and internal teams on planning strategy, development opportunities and potential planning risks
- Assessing development opportunities and planning risks during site acquisition and feasibility stages
- Monitoring planning policy, local plans and relevant legislative developments
- Representing the business at planning committees, public consultations and stakeholder meetings
- Developing strong relationships with local authorities, planning officers, consultants, clients and other external stakeholders
- Contributing to the continued growth of the business through commercial awareness, planning insight and business development activity

About You
We are looking for an experienced planning professional who is confident managing projects and comfortable working directly with clients and stakeholders.
Ideally, you will have:
- At least five years' planning experience, ideally gained within a consultancy or developer environment
- Chartered membership of the RTPI, or be currently working towards membership
- Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy and guidance
- Experience managing projects through the planning process, including preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals
- Strong client relationship and stakeholder management skills
- Commercial awareness and excellent project management ability
- Strong report-writing skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
