Trade Control Analyst – Energy Trading
International Energy Trading Firm
Salary: £60,000 + 15% Location: London (3 days per week in office)
We are supporting a leading international energy trading firm in the search for a Trade Control Analyst to join their London team. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in Trade Control, Middle Office, Back Office or Energy Operations to build their career within a fast-paced trading environment. You’ll work closely with Trading and Operations teams across the trade lifecycle, gaining exposure to Gas, Power and Emissions markets while investigating trade discrepancies, managing operational issues and strengthening controls. We’re looking for someone who is analytical, detail-oriented and curious, with a good understanding of trade lifecycle processes and the confidence to work in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Validate trades entered into the company’s systems, ensuring transactions are accurately captured.
- Perform trade and operational controls to ensure the integrity and accuracy of traded positions.
- Reconcile trade data and investigate discrepancies, exceptions and operational breaks.
- Review trade amendments and ensure changes are accurately reflected across relevant systems and processes.
- Investigate issues across the trade lifecycle and drive them through to resolution.
- Work closely with Trading, Operations and other internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and operational issues.
- Identify potential operational risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- Follow established processes and procedures while identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Support the effective processing and control of transactions across the trade lifecycle, from booking and amendment through to contracts and settlement.
- Contribute to the ongoing review, documentation and enhancement of operational processes and controls.
- Meet agreed departmental KPIs and maintain a high standard of accuracy and control.

Required Experience
- Ideally 1–3 years’ experience in a relevant Trade Control, Middle Office, Back Office or Operations role.
- Prior experience working in a Trade Control environment is highly desirable.
- Experience within Energy Markets, ideally Gas, Power and/or Emissions.
- Good working knowledge of Operations within Energy Markets.
- Understanding of the trade lifecycle, including booking, amendments, contracts and settlements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience investigating discrepancies, identifying root causes and proposing solutions.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic trading environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to follow procedures, identify problems, propose solutions and follow through to resolution.
- Good Excel skills are advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with both technical and business stakeholders.

Desirable Experience
- Experience within an Energy Trading House, Commodity Trading environment or similar financial markets organisation.
- Specific experience across Gas, Power and/or Emissions markets.
- Previous experience within Trade Control, Middle Office or Back Office Operations.
- Exposure to energy trading systems and operational control frameworks.
- Understanding of how trade data flows through booking, amendments, contracts and settlement processes.
- Experience identifying and implementing improvements to operational processes and controls.
