Role Description

The Trade Counter Assistant role is a part-time 16hrs, on-site position based at the Bradfords branch in Liskeard. In this role, the assistant will serve customers at the trade counter, providing product information, processing orders, and handling payments accurately. Daily tasks include restocking shelves, maintaining a clean and safe sales area, and assisting with merchandising and promotional displays. The assistant will work closely with colleagues in the yard and warehouse to coordinate customer collections and deliveries and ensure orders are completed on time. This position also involves answering telephone inquiries, preparing quotations, and supporting a positive, helpful customer experience at all times.

Qualifications

  • Customer service skills, including clear communication and a friendly, professional approach to serving trade and local customers.
  • Basic sales and retail skills, with the ability to provide product advice, upsell where appropriate, and process transactions accurately.
  • Organizational skills, including attention to detail when handling orders, stock, and documentation.
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across the branch.
  • Numeracy skills sufficient for handling cash, card payments, and simple calculations.
  • Ability to follow health and safety procedures in a builder’s merchant environment.
  • Previous experience in trade counter, retail, or building supplies is beneficial but not essential.
  • Willingness to learn about building materials and related products, with a proactive and reliable work ethic.
