About Avint-Garde Fine Wine
Avint-Garde Fine Wine (AGFW) is an independent fine wine retailer specialising in the secondary market of fine and rare wines. We've built a strong private client base, and increasingly restaurants are finding their way to us on their own — sommeliers and buyers who've heard about us through the trade rather than through any outreach on our part. We're already supplying Michelin-starred and other top wine-focused restaurants in London, so this isn't a channel being built from zero — it's one that's already working and needs someone to grow it properly. Roughly 10–12 hours a week.
The Role
The pitch to restaurants isn't just secondary-market access — most already have that through an existing merchant relationship. It's what we're able to source and at what price: bottles bought well below market that we can offer at prices most merchants can't get near. We get there by using market data and our own pricing technology to spot genuine value in the secondary market and act on it quickly, rather than pricing by instinct or standard trade margin. Done well, that's a wine list that reads better to guests and a beverage programme with better margins underneath it — not one at the expense of the other.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Arrangement
We're open on how the arrangement works — hourly, commission, freelance, or a small retainer, or some mix of those — so this can sit alongside a sommelier role or other existing commitments rather than compete with it. Happy to shape it around what works for the right person.
What We're Looking For
- Sommelier experience, ideally with an existing network across London's restaurant scene.
- Real fine wine knowledge is non-negotiable — you should be fluent in how the secondary market works, not just able to talk about it.
- CMS or WSET qualifications are a plus but not a requirement.
- London-based, or close enough to be genuinely embedded in the scene, is strongly preferred.
