Trade Support Engineer
A London-based commodities trading firm is hiring its next Trade Support Engineer. You'll be the first line between the trading desk and everything it depends on. Oil derivatives move fast, so when a trade doesn't book, a price looks wrong, or a report doesn't land, you're the person who spots it, chases it, and gets it sorted before it costs anyone money. It's a proper front-row seat on how a trading business runs.
What you'll do
- Own daily trade lifecycle support: bookings, amendments, allocations, and give-ups across physical and derivatives flow
- Investigate and clear breaks between internal systems, brokers, exchanges, and clearers
- Run start-of-day and end-of-day checks, and escalate fast when something looks off
- Keep an eye on pricing and market data feeds, and chase down missing or bad data at source
- Act as the link between traders and the tech team, translating desk problems into clear, reproducible issues
- Support onboarding of new products, counterparties, and accounts
- Build and maintain reconciliations and reporting in Excel
- Get close to the systems behind the desk, running queries against trade and market data to find answers yourself
- Write up processes and runbooks so the desk isn't reliant on one person's memory

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
