Department Overview:
The Structured Rates Insurance Hybrid Trading team offers hedging and packaging solutions for Insurers and Reinsurers, helping to generate defined returns for insurance companies on their products (variable annuities, fixed annuities, fixed index annuities), and is looking for a trader to join its team. The desk is part of Structured Rates Trading at Nomura and is involved in cross-border transactions with Japanese clients.
Role Description:
- Understanding and manage the whole transaction workflow and lifecycle. This will involve understanding of:
- Funding and repo transactions
- Collateral bookings
- Futures and options expiries management
- Processing of biometric data from insurers
- Checking and confirmation of settlement calculations based on biometrics
- Handling of non-standard settlements
- Liaising with sales and structuring in response to client queries
- Develop strong understanding of hedge instruments and risk dynamics
- Build understanding of PL drivers and resource usage drivers
- Build strong relationship with both control functions and sales persons
- Work with the team to get new projects approved and traded

Skills, Experience, Qualifications, and Knowledge Required:
- Knowledge of financial markets and derivatives through experience or degree
- Strong grounding in mathematics/statistics/computer science preferred
- Experience in Python / VBA coding preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

- Attention to detail: Ability to dive into complex trade structures, legal documents, and code with focus on detail and accuracy
- Initiative: Being able to build one’s own learning plan and ask the right questions
- Communication skills: Interpersonal relations and the ability to successfully communicate across different regions and teams is a key success factor in this role. Being able to articulate complex issues and coordinate with other team members on this complex book is key
- Ability to work as a team, both within the trading desk as and together with other Front Office functions such as Structuring, Sales, Legal etc.
