Team: AI Enablement / Volcafe Research & Trading Intelligence

Primary Stakeholders: Volcafe trading, research, finance, and commercial teams in London and Switzerland

Focus: Research automation, trading intelligence, KPI reporting, signal extraction, ERP/data integration, AI-enabled workflow design

Role Overview

Volcafe is seeking an AI Enablement Analyst to help transform how research, trading intelligence, commercial KPIs, and market signals are captured, analyzed, and distributed across the business. This role will be based in London and will work closely with desk personnel across London and Switzerland, supporting Volcafe’s coffee trading and research teams through AI-enabled analytics, workflow automation, data extraction, and decision-support tools.

The successful candidate will sit at the intersection of research, trading, data, AI, and business operations. They will help identify manual or fragmented workflows, translate desk needs into structured AI-enabled solutions, and build tools that improve visibility into market conditions, trading signals, liquidity signals, KPIs, and operational/commercial performance.

This is not a pure software engineering role. It is a hands-on business enablement role for someone who is analytically strong, commercially curious, technically capable, and eager to work directly with traders, researchers, and commercial stakeholders.

What You’ll Do

Research & Trading Intelligence Enablement

  • Work with Volcafe research and trading teams to improve how market intelligence is captured, synthesized, and surfaced.
  • Key workflows may include:
    • Surfacing trading signals from internal and external data sources
    • Identifying liquidity signals from emails, Teams messages, broker commentary, market updates, and scraped sources
    • Summarizing origin-level market intelligence, weather, crop, flow, export, and stock data
    • Automating daily and weekly research updates
    • Building tools to compare market commentary across sources
    • Creating structured intelligence feeds for traders and commercial teams
    • Supporting natural-language Q&A over internal research, market notes, reports, and data sources

The goal is to move from fragmented information to repeatable, searchable, and actionable trading intelligence.

KPI Reporting & Commercial Analytics

  • Build and improve KPI workflows for trading, research, and commercial leadership.
  • Example areas may include:
    • Desk performance KPIs
    • Trading activity and market participation metrics
    • Research output and usage metrics
    • Commercial pipeline indicators
    • Liquidity and market activity signals
    • Origin / region / counterparty-level analytics
    • Operational and execution metrics
    • Automated daily, weekly, and monthly reporting packs

You will work with business users to understand which KPIs actually matter, where the data lives, how it should be validated, and how it should be presented for decision-making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Signal Extraction from Email, Teams & Scraped Data

  • Design workflows that extract useful intelligence from unstructured and semi-structured sources:
    • Including: Internal emails, Teams chats and channels, Broker updates, Market commentary, Research reports, Origin updates, News and public data sources, Web-scraped market or logistics data, Uploaded documents, PDFs, and spreadsheets

Potential use cases include:

  • Identifying recurring market themes
  • Extracting bids/offers, liquidity indications, pricing commentary, and counterparty signals
  • Flagging unusual market activity or sentiment shifts
  • Summarizing key messages by region, origin, or product
  • Generating action-oriented daily intelligence briefings
  • Linking unstructured commentary back to structured trade, position, or KPI data

This will require strong judgment around source quality, permissions, data lineage, and when human review is required.

ERP & Data Integration Enablement

  • Work with technology, data, and business teams to support integrations between AI workflows and enterprise systems.
  • This may include:
    • Understanding ERP data structures and business processes
    • Mapping data from ERP systems into analytics and AI workflows
    • Supporting integrations with trading, logistics, finance, inventory, and reporting systems
    • Helping define requirements for APIs, data feeds, and structured outputs
    • Validating that ERP-derived data is accurate, timely, and fit for use
    • Building prototypes that combine ERP data with market intelligence and research commentary

The role requires comfort working with both structured system data and messy business context.

AI Workflow Design & Prototyping

  • Design and implement AI-enabled workflows using Volcafe / Hartree’s internal AI tooling and related platforms.
  • Responsibilities may include:
    • Building prompt templates and reusable prompt libraries
    • Designing agent workflows for research synthesis and trading intelligence
    • Creating RAG / document Q&A workflows over approved sources
    • Building bot prototypes or workflow assistants
    • Creating evaluation datasets and quality checks
    • Testing AI outputs for accuracy, consistency, and usefulness
    • Working with IT / engineering teams to productionize successful prototypes
    • Documenting workflows, assumptions, limitations, and controls

You will be expected to distinguish clearly between:

  • AI-assisted tasks — summarization, classification, extraction, synthesis, commentary drafting
  • Deterministic tasks — KPI calculations, reconciliations, exposure/PnL calculations, data validation, system-of-record reporting

What You'll Need:

Experience

  • Experience in one or more of the following:
    • Commodity research
    • Trading analytics
    • Commercial analytics
    • Data analytics / data science
    • Business analysis
    • Trading operations
    • Finance / performance reporting
    • Market intelligence
