Trading Assistant - Soft Drinks

The category includes carbonated drinks, energy drinks, sports drinks, bottled water, dilutes, juices and functional beverages.

Role Purpose

As a Trading Assistant in Soft Drinks, you will support one of the fastest-moving categories in grocery. You will provide vital support to the Trading team, ensuring products are set up for customers to buy, promotional activity is delivered accurately, funding and commercial plans are executed effectively. You will play a key role in managing day-to-day category administration, supplier communications, systems maintenance, and reporting, helping the team respond quickly to changing customer and market demands.

This is a fast-paced role requiring exceptional organisation, attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial & Trading Support

  • Support Traders with day-to-day category management
  • Maintain accurate product files, supplier and retail pricing, internal category systems
  • Support delivery of the P&L through accurate and timely processing of funding
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of promotions, events and product launches
  • Support range reviews and new product development processes.

Supplier Management

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with suppliers.
  • Coordinate supplier communications and resolve queries in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all supplier documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Support trading with supplier meetings

Administration & Systems

  • Maintain product records, pricing files, and promotional setups.
  • Process and validate data accurately within agreed deadlines.
  • Ensure category information is kept up to date across all relevant systems.
  • Support the management of critical paths for product launches and category projects.

Cross-Functional Working

  • Collaborate with merchandising, supply chain, marketing, finance, and retail ops
  • Support the successful delivery of category initiatives and commercial projects.
  • Act as a key point of contact for administrative and operational category queries.

About You

We're looking for a highly organised and proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced, commercial environment. You'll be naturally detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and comfortable working to tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.

You will have strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and support trading decisions. Confident using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications, you'll be comfortable working with large volumes of information and producing clear, actionable insights.

A strong communicator, you'll be able to build effective relationships with suppliers and a wide range of internal stakeholders, working collaboratively to deliver category objectives. You'll also possess a problem-solving mindset, taking ownership of challenges and responding quickly to changing priorities.

Ideally, you'll have previous experience within a retail, buying, trading or FMCG environment, with an understanding of category management. Experience working within trading or account management would be advantageous but above all, you'll be commercially curious, eager to learn, resilient under pressure and excited by the opportunity to support one of the most dynamic and fast-moving categories in grocery retail.
