About us

Our mission is to deliver joy in every shop, through unbeatable choice, unrivalled service, and reassuringly good value. We’re also on a mission to empower our business with smart technology; we've recently launched our AI Academy, providing a tailored AI learning journey for every colleague.

We’re Ocado Retail, a market-leading joint venture between Ocado Group and M&S, and the world’s largest dedicated online supermarket, ocado.com. Not only is Ocado the only place to shop a full range of M&S food online, it’s also the home to the widest online supermarket range in the UK and champion of small, independent brands. We’re also the brains behind Zoom by Ocado, our same-day grocery delivery service.

About the team and the role

This role will lead the Buying team for the Fresh Produce business, a large, fast-moving, and perishable category that sits at the heart of the Ocado customer proposition and requires relentless commercial focus to deliver at pace.

You will report into the Head of Category in our Fresh & Chilled Team and have the responsibility to lead and coach a team of circa 8 Buyers, working with dotted line support across our commercial support teams, and will work closely with Supply Chain, Merchandising, Finance, and Customer stakeholders as you build and mobilise your plans.

What you’ll do

Commercial Accountability:

  • Source and buy great quality ranges for our customers while maintaining full responsibility for managing your department's P&L.
  • Quickly adapt to an online mindset to identify untapped growth and use rich data to constantly raise the bar in our customer proposition.
  • Deliver both category and business goals in tandem through strategic execution.

Strategy, Range & Innovation:

  • Develop your own category strategy to support the overall business objectives. Utilise a high level of strategic thinking to land the basics of your business plan while leading significant change projects.
  • Focus on customer centricity as a fundamental driver, ensuring choice remains a key differentiator for Ocado.

People Management & Performance:

  • Proactively lead your team to maximise performance, sales, profitability, and market share.
  • Foster a coaching mindset to develop team members and drive collective success.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
