Assistant Trading Manager – FMCG
7-Month Contract | Up to £60,000 per annum
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Trading Manager to join a fast-paced FMCG/retail business on an initial 7-month contract.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Buyer, Trading or Category professional who enjoys supplier negotiation, commercial analysis and developing strategies that drive sales and profitability.
The Role
You will play a key role in developing and delivering trading and category strategies across a national product range, working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and delivering category and trading strategies.
- Managing and negotiating supplier relationships, costs and commercial terms.
- Managing trading budgets and maximising income and profitability.
- Analysing market trends, competitor activity and commercial data to identify opportunities.
- Developing and delivering promotional plans with suppliers and internal teams.
- Managing product availability and resolving supply or product issues.
- Working closely with multiple stakeholders across the business.
- Managing, coaching and developing a Trading Assistant.
- Supporting projects and identifying opportunities to improve trading performance.

About You
We're looking for someone with:
- Proven experience within FMCG buying, trading or category management.
- Strong supplier negotiation skills and a track record of delivering commercial results.
- Experience managing product ranges, budgets and promotional activity.
- Strong analytical and commercial skills.
- Confidence working with and presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing or developing people.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A degree or equivalent higher education qualification.

Experience within retail or wholesale FMCG, particularly BWS (Beer, Wine & Spirits), would be highly desirable.
