We are seeking a fully qualified and motivated Trading Standards Officer to join our Enterprise and Specialist Services Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a varied and challenging role, delivering the full range of Trading Standards functions, with a particular focus on industrial and non-retail sectors. A key aspect of the role will be to work within our UKAS accredited laboratory, and the development and expansion of its commercial operations

About The Role
Pay Details: Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35 £41,771- £46,142 p.a
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours flexible working (part time/job share applications will be considered)

Main Place of Work: Bridgend/Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan, office locations and home working.
Permanent
Key aspects of the role include:
- Planning and delivering inspections, audits and investigations at manufacturing and commercial premises
- Leading and managing complex investigations into breaches of Trading Standards legislation
- Undertaking metrological enforcement activities, including testing equipment used for trade
- Supporting the operation and development of the UKAS-accredited metrology laboratory, including its commercial activities
- Developing and implementing sampling programmes, surveys and service initiatives
- Providing specialist advice to businesses, including Primary Authority partnerships
- Preparing cases and presenting evidence in court, tribunals and formal proceedings
You will also contribute to broader regulatory activity, supporting compliance across service areas and working collaboratively with internal and external partners.
About You
You will be an experienced and competent Trading Standards professional with a strong commitment to public protection and business support.
You must:
- Hold a Professional CTSI qualification (Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent) including Weights & Measures and Food Standards modules
- Have proven experience in Trading Standards enforcement, inspections and investigations
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of Trading Standards legislation and evidence-gathering principles
- Be confident managing complex casework and delivering successful enforcement outcomes

- Can work independently while contributing effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
- Have excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills

You must also:
- Be able to travel across Bridgend, Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan
- Be willing to work outside normal hours when required
