About The Role

Peterborough City Council Trading Standards Service are seeking a talented Trading Standards Authorised Officer for this post.

The Trading standards team is a well-regarded, statutory service, strategically placed within the council in the regulatory services family of teams with a key role of protecting local consumers and legitimate businesses, we are committed to developing services in response to community needs.

Our Trading Standards Service covers the geographical area of Peterborough. Our office base is in Peterborough, and we encourage a balance of face to face and remote working. You will be provided with a laptop, phone and technology to support a flexible approach.

Both Trading Standards and Housing Standards are part of Regulatory Services, protecting local residents and ensuring a level playing field for legitimate businesses. The teams work closely together, and both are intelligence-led, their work focusing on matters that can cause the greatest harms or detriment. This roles area of work will include the Renters Rights Act in the subject area of fair trade and will work within a strong team using these links.

What will you be doing?

You will be joining a team of Trading Standards Officers who are passionate about providing a safe and fair trading environment in Peterborough. With the supervision and guidance of our supportive team members you will gather and process intelligence and respond to complaints and enquiries across the extensive Trading Standards remit.

You will undertake project work, carry out inspections of business, investigate business non-compliance and provide support, advice and guidance to local businesses.

About You

Ideally, you will be a qualified and experienced Trading Standards Officer holding either the Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA), Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS) or the Diploma in Trading Standards (DTS).

We will consider applications from candidates who do not hold the above qualifications but have proven transferrable skills and relevant experience.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about consumer protection and the role Trading Standards have, has a positive attitude, who can remain calm and confident under pressure with the ability to communicate well.

We require 5 GCSE's grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English Language and two A Levels (or equivalent).
