Traffic Management Supervisor
The Traffic Management Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination, and monitoring of traffic management activities across the Staffordshire and Hampshire areas. The role ensures that traffic management operations are planned and delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract requirements, relevant legislation, industry standards, approved codes of practice, and client procedures.
The postholder will oversee activities including the installation, maintenance, inspection, alteration, and removal of temporary traffic management arrangements. This will include traffic management for highways maintenance, construction works, incidents, emergencies, events, and other activities affecting the road network.
The role will work closely with operational teams, traffic management contractors, specialist subcontractors, client representatives, highways authorities, emergency services, and other stakeholders to ensure that traffic management arrangements protect road users and the workforce while supporting the safe and efficient operation of the network.
Key Responsibilities
Traffic Management Supervision
- Supervise and monitor traffic management activities across the Staffordshire and Hampshire areas.
- Coordinate the installation, inspection, maintenance, modification, and removal of temporary traffic management arrangements.
- Ensure traffic management layouts are implemented in accordance with approved drawings, schemes, risk assessments, method statements, permits, and client requirements.
- Undertake site inspections to confirm that traffic management arrangements remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
- Check that traffic signs, cones, barriers, road markings, lighting, temporary signals, pedestrian facilities, and other traffic management equipment are correctly positioned and maintained.
- Ensure traffic management arrangements are appropriate for the road type, traffic conditions, work activity, weather, visibility, and foreseeable risks.
- Monitor traffic flows, queue lengths, congestion, access arrangements, and the impact of works on road users.
- Identify deficiencies, hazards, or unauthorised changes and ensure immediate corrective action is taken.
- Escalate urgent safety issues, significant congestion, incidents, and non-compliance to the appropriate manager or client representative.
- Support the planning and coordination of traffic management requirements for planned and reactive works.

Minimum Requirements
Essential:
- 12D LANTRA Qualifications – M1/M2, M5, M6
- Minimum 3 years’ traffic management experience
- Current UK Driving Licence
- Computer literate
- Punctual and reliable

Licence/Certification:
- M6 or M7 Lantra Qualification (required)
- Driving Licence (required)

Overall Accountability
The Traffic Management Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that traffic management activities across Staffordshire and Hampshire are planned, supervised, inspected, and delivered safely, efficiently, compliantly, and to the required quality standards. The role is expected to provide visible operational leadership, identify emerging risks and traffic management requirements, ensure appropriate action is taken, and contribute to the continuous improvement of traffic management arrangements and highway network safety.
