Job Introduction
Secondment / temporary opportunity for 6 months initially
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the post holder will take a lead role in ensuring the Council complies with the requirements of the Traffic Management Act 2004, Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, Town Police Clauses Act 1847, and the Vehicle Excise Duty (Immobilisation, Removal and Disposal of Vehicles) Regulations 1997.
The successful candidate will become part of a team responsible for managing the highway network, sharing information, coordinating activities, and promoting an integrated approach to traffic management across the district. The role includes taking operational responsibility for coordinating events on the highway network and representing the service as part of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) process.
The post holder will also support the legal and enforcement aspects of highway network operations, including undertaking formal enforcement action where necessary to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and to protect public safety. Experience of working within a multi-agency environment and dealing with complex operational issues on a daily basis is essential.

Applicants should possess a good standard of IT literacy, including experience of using Microsoft Office applications and the ability to produce spreadsheets, reports, and other written documentation to a professional standard.
As this is a temporary six-month contract, the role will be predominantly office-based. Appropriate training and support will be provided where required. A full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to sites across the district is desirable.
