This is a talent pool vacancy aimed at filling both current and upcoming opportunities. Due to the nature of the shifts work involved in these roles, applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
At GWR, we are proud to carry over 100 million passenger journeys every year to more than 275 stations across the South West, Wales, and London. With some of the UK's newest trains and a commitment to exceptional service, we are transforming rail travel.
We believe rail is more than just transport – it's a relaxing, efficient, and enjoyable experience. That's why we're looking for people who will help us revalue rail and make every journey special.
About the job:
Every journey starts with a safe and smooth departure, and as a Train Dispatcher, you’ll play an important role in making that happen.
If you enjoy working with people, like being part of a busy team and can stay calm when things get busy, this could be the role for you. You’ll help ensure trains depart safely and on time, while providing friendly, helpful support to our customers throughout their journey.
We’re looking for people who are reliable, approachable and good communicators, with a positive attitude and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment. You don’t need to have worked on the railway before; we’ll provide the training and support you need to succeed.
If you’re looking for a role where every day is different, and your work makes a difference to our customers, we’d love to hear from you.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
