Are you looking to start or develop your career in accounting and finance? This is a great opportunity to join Zeeco Europe as a Trainee Accountant / Accounts Assistant, gaining hands-on experience across a busy finance function while developing your professional skills.

Working as part of our Accounts team, you’ll support the day-to-day processing and cost control activities of the department, with a particular focus on purchase and sales ledger. You’ll also have the opportunity to support the Financial Controller and Finance Manager on a variety of projects and wider finance activities.

For someone looking to develop professionally, there is also the opportunity to complete AAT studies (over three years), either through an apprenticeship or self-study route.

Key responsibilities

Purchase Ledger

  • Processing supplier invoices against purchase orders.
  • Coding and processing non-PO invoices, ensuring the appropriate approvals are obtained.
  • Maintaining accurate supplier information.
  • Resolving invoice queries with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Posting and allocating Direct Debit payments.
  • Following up advance payments and obtaining the relevant tax invoices.
  • Reconciling supplier statements and accounts.

Sales Ledger

  • Posting daily cash receipts.
  • Allocating customer payments against the appropriate invoices.
  • Ensuring customer accounts are accurately reconciled.
  • Responding to customer audit requests.

Wider Finance Support

  • Reconciling corporate credit card statements.
  • Coding and processing employee expenses.
  • Processing weekly timesheets accurately and on time.
  • Supporting annual audit requirements.
  • Assisting with the maintenance and audit of the fixed asset schedule.
  • Supporting perpetual inventory counts and the annual stock take.
  • Providing additional support to the Finance Manager and Financial Controller as required.
  • Providing cover for other members of the Accounts team during periods of absence.
  • Getting involved in ad hoc projects and activities across the finance department.

What we’re looking for

You don’t necessarily need extensive finance experience. We’re looking for someone who is motivated to learn, organised and keen to develop a career in accounting.

Ideally, you’ll have:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and particularly Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a dependable approach to your work.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the confidence to use your initiative.
  • A flexible approach and the ability to adapt when priorities change.
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and enjoy working as part of a team.
  • A commitment to learning and continuous improvement.
  • A willingness to undertake AAT studies (over three years), either through an apprenticeship or self-study.

Previous experience within a finance department or using Sage 200 would be advantageous, but isn’t essential.
