Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a successful and established SME that are part of a group to recruit a dynamic & driven Trainee Accountant for their site based in Ledbury, Herefordshire. This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit finance team, where you will report directly to the Finance Manager. You will be looking to develop your career in accounting while gaining practical experience within the manufacturing sector. The role is varied and hands-on, involving day-to-day financial operations, through to assisting with month-end duties and maintaining accurate financial records. The position will offer a study package for financial qualification AAT, CIMA or ACCA along with the opportunity for genuine career development.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve:

  • Assisting with month-end and year-end processes
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations
  • Supporting the preparation of management accounts
  • Assisting with stock and inventory reconciliations
  • Supporting payroll administration and processing
  • Assisting with VAT returns and statutory submissions
  • Supporting budgeting/forecasting processes
  • Producing reports within MS Excel
  • Supporting internal/external audit requirements
  • Involved in all purchase ledger processes, including processing supplier invoices, reconciling supplier statements and preparing payment runs for approval
  • Sales ledger processes, including processing sales invoices, credit notes, monitoring customer accounts, and credit control
  • Perform daily/weekly bank reconciliations
  • Assist with cash flow reporting
  • Process receipts and payments
  • Support the Finance Manager with ad-hoc duties and projects, including process improvement initiatives

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this permanent Trainee Accountant role, you will have:

  • Some experience within an accounting department, seeking career progression
  • Key attention to detail
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • A proactive and positive working approach
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Comfortable with financial systems
  • Key communication skills to partner internally/externally
  • Studying towards AAT, CIMA, ACCA or have a keen interest in studying for a finance qualification
  • A team player who can use their own initiative and be adaptable to business needs

Experience working within a small/medium-sized organisation with knowledge of Sage, Business Central or Dynamics 365 would be advantageous but not essential.
