I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Role of Trainee Accounts Associate:
You'll work alongside experienced managers on real client assignments, preparing accounts and supporting corporation tax, personal tax, bookkeeping, and VAT work. As your knowledge and confidence grow, you'll take on more responsibility and build direct client experience.
This is specifically a Worcester and Droitwich role, not a vacancy where you choose one office. You'll work regularly from both locations, with the anticipated pattern likely to include around two days in Droitwich and weekly time in Worcester. The exact split will flex around team, client, and training needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare year-end accounts and supporting working papers for manager review
- Assist with corporation tax computations and returns and, where required, personal tax work
- Support bookkeeping and VAT return preparation
- Help managers and portfolio holders keep client compliance work accurate, organised and on schedule
- Build relationships with colleagues and clients and develop your commercial understanding
- Work collaboratively across our Worcester and Droitwich offices
- Gain broader exposure where opportunities arise, including potential experience with Audit and Private Client
- Study towards the ACA qualification and apply your learning to practical client work
