Role Description

This hybrid role, based in Leeds with some work-from-home flexibility, is open to both trainees and experienced civils specialists and machine operators. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with and performing civil works such as excavation, ground preparation, drainage installation, and site clearance
  • Operating construction machinery in a safe and efficient manner
  • Using hand tools and equipment
  • Supporting site setup and maintenance
  • Following project plans and instructions from site supervisors
  • Adhering to health and safety procedures at all times

Team members will help monitor work quality, report any issues or hazards, and collaborate with colleagues and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification. Administrative tasks may include:

  • Basic reporting
  • Completing checklists for equipment
  • Participating in training or toolbox talks, some of which may be completed remotely

Qualifications

  • Civils and machine operation skills, including Machine Operation and working safely with Machinery in a construction environment.
  • Quality-focused skills, such as participating in Quality Control processes and following standards and procedures on site.
  • Practical site skills, including safe use of Hand Tools and basic knowledge of groundworks or civil engineering tasks.
  • Strong Communication skills for working effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and external contractors.
  • Willingness to learn for trainee candidates; proven experience in civils or plant operation is beneficial for experienced candidates.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations, with any relevant certifications (e.g., CSCS card, CPCS/NPORS plant tickets) considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work on-site in Leeds with some tasks carried out from home, maintaining reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude.
