Ashlea Ltd is a specialist landscaping company delivering soft landscaping, grounds maintenance, and arboricultural services across a wide range of sites and clients. Projects range from small private care homes to major civil engineering schemes, with contract values from £1K to over £2.5 million. The team has extensive experience in resolving specification challenges and working within program and budget constraints. Ashlea Ltd manages mature tree selection and planting in partnership with architects and nurseries, and provides ongoing maintenance for housing associations, retail parks, hospitals, schools, new developments, and local authorities. The company also operates a 24-hour emergency arboricultural service and employs specialist staff with nationally recognized NPTC qualifications.
Role Description
The Trainee Assistant Estimator role is a full-time, on-site position based in Carnforth. The role involves supporting the estimating team with the preparation of cost estimates and tender documents for landscaping, grounds maintenance, and arboricultural contracts. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing drawings and specifications, gathering pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors, and assisting with quantity take-offs and cost breakdowns. The Trainee Assistant Estimator will help maintain estimating databases, update project records, and prepare reports and summaries for senior team members. The role also includes liaising with internal operational staff to understand site requirements and constraints, and contributing to continuous improvement of estimating processes.

- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical information such as drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in basic IT tools, including spreadsheets, word processing, and email; familiarity with estimating or project management software is an advantage.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing documentation, coordinating with colleagues, and engaging with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple estimates, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
- Interest in landscaping, grounds maintenance, construction, or arboriculture; prior exposure to these sectors is beneficial but not essential.
- Ability to work effectively in an on-site team environment in Carnforth, with a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- Relevant education such as GCSEs/A-levels or equivalent; a qualification in construction, quantity surveying, or a related field is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Awareness of health and safety principles in outdoor and construction environments; any related training or certification is beneficial.
