Position: Trainee Bid Writer
Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Location: Dungannon, Co. Tyrone
Team: Bids & Communication
Reporting to: Bids & Communication Manager

This trainee opportunity is designed for an enthusiastic writer who wants to build a career in bids and work winning. You will learn how successful pre-qualification questionnaires (PQQs), tenders, proposals and presentations are planned, written, reviewed and submitted, while receiving guidance from experienced colleagues.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the bid team from early PQQ stage through to final tender submission.
- Assist with reviewing tender requirements, creating response plans and tracking actions and deadlines.
- Research clients, projects, sectors and competitors to help produce well-informed submissions.
- Draft, edit and proofread clear, concise and engaging responses under the guidance of experienced bid colleagues.
- Work with operational, commercial, design, sustainability, SHEQ and other subject-matter experts to gather evidence and technical information.
- Help develop case studies, project profiles, CVs, organisational charts and other reusable bid content.
- Support the preparation of client presentations and interview materials.
- Maintain accurate bid records, libraries and information within company systems and bid software.
- Attend kick-off, progress and review meetings; record actions and follow up with contributors.
- Visit live and completed project sites, where required, to gather information, photographs and lessons learned.
- Use feedback to improve content, templates and ways of working across the work-winning team.
- Carry out other reasonable duties that support the wider bid and business development function.

What You Will Learn
- How construction and civil engineering opportunities progress from PQQ through tender, interview and award.
- How to interpret client questions, evaluation criteria and submission instructions.
- How to develop persuasive, evidence-based responses that are tailored to client priorities.
- Bid planning, document control, review cycles, quality assurance and deadline management.
- Professional use of Microsoft 365 and presentation tools to create polished client-facing documents.
- How project teams deliver safely, sustainably and collaboratively.
Your Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Strong written English, with the ability to explain information clearly and accurately.
- A careful approach to grammar, spelling, formatting and attention to detail.
- Good organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage several tasks and meet deadlines.
- Confident communication skills and a willingness to ask questions, seek feedback and work collaboratively.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, with an interest in developing advanced document and presentation skills.
- A proactive, positive and dependable approach, with an interest in construction, civil engineering or professional services.
- A degree, HND/HNC, apprenticeship or equivalent experience in business, management, construction, civil engineering, English, journalism, marketing or communications is desirable.
- Experience producing structured written work through study, employment, volunteering or extracurricular activities is desirable.
- Awareness of tendering, procurement, bid writing or the construction industry is desirable; previous bid experience is not required.
- A full UK driving licence or ability to travel to project locations when required is desirable.
