Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Salary

CRE positions this trainee role above National Minimum Wage / National Living Wage as a deliberate USP to attract and retain the right calibre of candidate, recognising that the roofing trade competes for entrants against other construction disciplines:

  • 21 and over: £13.98 per hour
  • 18 to 20: £11.93 per hour
  • Rates progress automatically as the successful candidate moves into the next statutory age band and are reviewed annually each April in line with NMW/NLW changes. Rates may be reviewed further ahead of the annual cycle in line with skills, competence and milestones achieved. See Career Progression below.

Career Progression

This role is structured as a genuine long-term career pathway, not a static entry-level position. Progression is milestone-based and tied to CRE's training and competence matrix:

  • Trainee (Year 1): site induction, WAH/MEWP competency training (once eligible), CSCS card, foundation roofing and survey skills, on-site experience.
  • Developing Surveyor/Technician (Year 1–2): independent minor repairs, supervised survey and defect reporting, progress towards NVQ Level 2
  • Roofing Surveyor & Technician (Year 2–3+): independent condition surveys, estimating support, NVQ Level 3, defined route to Surveyor or Estimator roles Pay reviews are aligned to these milestones rather than tenure alone, so capability and speed of development directly influence progression.

Equal Opportunities

Cambridge Roof Exchange Ltd is committed to equal opportunities in employment. All applicants will be considered on merit, regardless of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
