About the Role

At West Northants Council, it’s about our people and the difference they make. As a Trainee Customer Advisor, you’ll be joining a supportive team where learning and development are at the heart of the role. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in customer services, gain valuable experience in local government and develop the skills needed to support our residents, businesses and communities.

Unlike our Customer Service Advisor roles, which require a broader level of experience and responsibility from day one, this trainee position is designed to help you build your knowledge and confidence through hands-on experience, training and support. You'll learn about a wide range of Council services while developing the skills needed to deliver excellent customer service in a busy and rewarding environment.

Our Benefits

You can also see our full list of employee benefits on our careers site here: Why you should work for us | West Northamptonshire Council.

What will you be doing?

  • Learn how to provide advice, guidance and support to customers across a variety of Council services, helping residents access the information and assistance they need.
  • Work within our One Stop Shop, reception and Contact Centre environments, supporting customers through face-to-face, telephone, email and digital channels while developing your understanding of how local government services operate.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, maintain accurate customer records and learn how to use a range of systems and applications to support service delivery.
  • Encouraged to take ownership of customer enquiries within your level of knowledge, building your confidence and capability while contributing to a customer-first culture.
  • Work alongside experienced colleagues, gaining valuable insight into delivering customer excellence in often challenging circumstances, helping to ensure every customer receives a professional, helpful and positive experience.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
