Role Description
The Trainee Estimator / QS role is a full-time, on-site position based in Glasgow. The role involves assisting with the preparation of cost estimates and quotations for office fit-out and refurbishment projects, including gathering supplier prices and measuring quantities from drawings. The trainee will support the preparation of bills of quantities, cost plans, and tender documents, and help in tracking project costs and variations throughout the project lifecycle. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing technical drawings, updating cost databases, liaising with suppliers and subcontractors, and supporting senior estimators and quantity surveyors with commercial administration. The role also includes maintaining accurate records, contributing to value engineering exercises, and learning relevant industry standards and contractual procedures under guidance from the senior team.

- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail in measurements and cost calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications, or a willingness to develop this competency.
- Competence with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and a willingness to learn estimation or QS-related software tools.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Organisational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Relevant education such as an HNC/HND or degree (completed or in progress) in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline is beneficial.
- Interest in commercial interiors, construction, or fit-out projects, with a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- Ability to work on-site in Glasgow and occasionally visit project locations as required.
