Trainee Estimator

WG Tanker Group | Foston & Crewe

We are looking for a motivated and organised Trainee Estimator to join our team. This is a varied role combining estimating, customer relationships, administration, business development, and marketing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn to prepare accurate cost estimates and quotations for paintshop and specialist coating projects.
  • Research and source competitive prices for materials, labour, transport, and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with existing and potential new customers, maintaining strong relationships and identifying new opportunities.
  • Visit customer sites where required to gather information and build customer relationships.
  • Work closely with sales, production, suppliers, and OEM partners.
  • Manage customer information and opportunities through the Protean CRM system.
  • Assist with monitoring project costs and ensuring work remains within agreed budgets and margins.
  • Support invoicing and general commercial administration.
  • Assist with contract bids, forecasting, and the development of new business opportunities.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction and help identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to the company's social media and marketing activities, including creating content and supporting the development of our new website.
  • Develop knowledge of paint and specialist coating technologies and industry requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Commercially aware with good negotiation and problem-solving skills.
  • Confident dealing with customers, suppliers, and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
  • Marketing experience or a marketing qualification would be advantageous, with the opportunity to utilise these skills within the role.
