Marcon Construction is a specialist main contractor delivering healthcare, education, and commercial construction projects across the UK. With over 30 years of industry experience, the company works closely with NHS Trusts, consultants, developers, and private sector clients to deliver high-quality refurbishment, fit out, infrastructure, and modular construction projects in live operational environments. Its portfolio includes urgent treatment centres, operating theatres, specialist clinical spaces, education facilities, and complex phased refurbishments where safety and continuity of service are essential. Supported by an in-house joinery workshop, Marcon Construction is known for its professionalism, technical expertise, collaborative approach, and strong focus on quality, compliance, and long-term client relationships.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Trainee Estimator role based in Central Bedfordshire. The Trainee Estimator will support the estimating team in preparing cost estimates, take-offs, and tender submissions for refurbishment, fit out, infrastructure, and modular projects. Daily tasks include:

The role also involves maintaining estimating databases, supporting bid documentation and presentations, and coordinating with project managers, site teams, and commercial colleagues to ensure accurate and timely cost information. Under supervision, the Trainee Estimator will gain exposure to healthcare and education projects and develop a strong understanding of construction methods, compliance requirements, and client expectations.

Qualifications

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in calculations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents, or a willingness to learn quickly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and an interest in learning estimating or quantity surveying software.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks, deadlines, and changing priorities.
  • Enthusiasm for developing a career in construction estimating and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Relevant education such as a qualification or degree in construction, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Awareness of health and safety, quality, and compliance standards in construction; experience in healthcare or education projects is an advantage.
