Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Trainee Estimator role based in Central Bedfordshire. The Trainee Estimator will support the estimating team in preparing cost estimates, take-offs, and tender submissions for refurbishment, fit out, infrastructure, and modular projects. Daily tasks include:

- Reviewing drawings and specifications
- Assisting with quantity measurements
- Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Helping to build cost plans and budgets

The role also involves maintaining estimating databases, supporting bid documentation and presentations, and coordinating with project managers, site teams, and commercial colleagues to ensure accurate and timely cost information. Under supervision, the Trainee Estimator will gain exposure to healthcare and education projects and develop a strong understanding of construction methods, compliance requirements, and client expectations.
Qualifications
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy in calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents, or a willingness to learn quickly.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and an interest in learning estimating or quantity surveying software.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks, deadlines, and changing priorities.
- Enthusiasm for developing a career in construction estimating and a proactive approach to learning.
- Relevant education such as a qualification or degree in construction, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Awareness of health and safety, quality, and compliance standards in construction; experience in healthcare or education projects is an advantage.
