10 Recruitment are currently working with a well-established manufacturing business in Bingley who are looking to recruit an experienced Production Operator / Machine Operator to join their team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong and consistent manufacturing background who is looking for long-term stability and wants to develop their skills within plastics manufacturing and extrusion.
Previous experience within plastics, extrusion, packaging, converting or similar manufacturing environments would be highly advantageous.
THE ROLE
Working within a busy plastics manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for operating production and conversion machinery, handling raw materials and finished products, and supporting the smooth running of the manufacturing process.
This is a hands-on and physically demanding manufacturing role, involving regular manual handling and lifting of materials and finished products.
The long-term aim is for the successful candidate to develop into a skilled Extrusion Setter, gaining knowledge and experience across the extrusion process and machinery.
TRAINING & PROGRESSION
Please note: this is not an immediate Extrusion Setter position.
The successful candidate will initially join the business as a Production Operator / Machine Operator and will gradually be trained across the manufacturing process, machinery and plastics operation.
Training will take place alongside the normal production role and over time. Progression into extrusion setting will depend on the individual's performance, reliability, attitude, ability to learn and development of the required technical skills.
This is not an overnight transition. The company is looking for someone who is genuinely interested in building a long-term career within manufacturing and is prepared to learn the process properly.
Previous experience operating machinery within a manufacturing environment is therefore important.

- Operating production, conversion, bagging and extrusion machinery
- Loading and preparing raw materials and film for production
- Learning the extrusion process and machinery as training progresses
- Developing machine-setting skills over time
- Monitoring machinery and production processes
- Carrying out quality checks to ensure products meet customer specifications
- Completing production and quality records accurately
- Handling and moving raw materials and finished products
- Regular lifting and manual handling as part of the production process
- Packing and preparing finished products for dispatch
- Removing production waste and supporting recycling processes
- Identifying and reporting machinery faults or production issues
- Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working area
- Working closely with colleagues and supervisors to maintain production output
- Following all company health & safety and production procedures

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The company is looking for someone who already has a good foundation of manufacturing and machine-operating experience and can develop their skills further within a specialist plastics manufacturing environment.
You will need to be comfortable with the physical side of manufacturing, including heavy lifting, loading materials and working around production machinery, while also being prepared to learn and develop technically over time.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has a proven track record of working consistently within manufacturing, is reliable, hands-on and looking for a permanent role where they can build a long-term career.
