At Castelan, we're passionate about helping customers restore and protect the furniture they value most. As a Trainee Furniture Technician, you'll join a structured training and development programme designed to provide the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed to become a fully qualified Furniture Technician.

Working alongside experienced technicians, you'll learn how to inspect, diagnose, repair and restore a wide range of furniture products while delivering exceptional customer service in customers' homes. Through a combination of hands-on experience, coaching and formal learning, you'll develop specialist skills and work towards a recognised Level 3 qualification.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work, takes pride in delivering quality service and is looking to establish a long-term career within a specialist trade.

Location

This is a field-based role covering your designated region. You'll travel to customers' homes and commercial premises, gradually building the confidence and capability to undertake repairs independently as your training progresses. As a representative of Castelan, you'll provide a professional, friendly and reassuring service at every customer visit.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Accompany experienced Furniture Technicians to inspect, assess and repair a wide range of furniture products within customers' homes and commercial premises.
  • Learn how to identify furniture faults, diagnose causes of damage and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Develop practical repair skills across upholstery, wood, leather, fabric, recliner mechanisms and other furniture components.
  • Deliver a professional, friendly and customer-focused service.
  • Keep customers informed throughout the repair process and ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Accurately record repair details, photographs, parts requirements and service outcomes using company systems and mobile technology.
  • Liaise with internal support teams regarding appointments, parts ordering, technical queries and customer updates.
  • Complete training modules, practical assessments and coursework through the Castelan Training Academy.
  • Work towards achieving the Level 3 Furniture Technician Qualification awarded by Highfield Qualifications.
  • Develop knowledge of furniture construction, materials, repair methods and industry standards.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, equipment and stock to required standards.
  • Carry out stock checks and assist with replenishment of repair materials and spare parts.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, safe working practices and risk assessment procedures.
  • Participate in coaching, performance reviews and development discussions to support your progression.
  • Support the wider technical services team and undertake other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum of two years' work experience demonstrating reliability, commitment and a positive work ethic.
  • Full UK driving licence, held for at least 12 months, with no more than six penalty points.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with customers and colleagues.
  • Basic IT skills, including the use of mobile devices and tablets.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift, carry and manoeuvre furniture safely.
  • A positive, flexible approach to work and willingness to travel within the designated region.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to completing the training programme and achieving the Level 3 qualification.

Desirable

  • Experience assembling or disassembling furniture, fixtures or household products.
  • Experience using hand tools and basic power tools.
  • Previous customer-facing experience.
  • Experience working independently and managing your own schedule.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions or assembly guides.
  • Vocational training or qualifications in furniture, upholstery, carpentry, joinery, manufacturing, engineering or a related trade.
