The team
Launch your TV career with ITV Academy and Emmerdale! We're looking for creative, organised individuals with practical skills in hair or make-up to join our fast-paced Makeup Department as a Trainee. You'll work alongside industry experts in the studio and on location, gaining hands-on experience in continuity, character prep, and professional workflows. If you're ready to bring stories to life on screen, this is your chance to turn your existing skills into a career in television production.
The role
As a Trainee, you won’t just be shadowing, you’ll be a vital part of the Emmerdale Makeup Team. From perfecting character looks and learning to manage continuity to collaborating with costume and production teams, you’ll gain real-world experience in every aspect of a busy, high-energy makeup department. You’ll master professional standards, support on-set filming, and learn the industry workflows that bring iconic characters to life.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
